Alta Restaurant is a 500 m² dining destination in the heart of Soho, London, conceived around the culture of open-fire cooking and the culinary heritage of Northern Spain. YODEZEEN was commissioned to deliver the full-cycle design — from design concept development to detailed documentation and author supervision throughout implementation. The brief called for an authentic yet contemporary restaurant environment: dynamic and welcoming, capable of hosting both lively group gatherings and intimate dining moments.
Concept
The design concept was shaped by two key forces: fire and the city.
Inspired by the raw energy of open-flame cooking and the eclectic rhythm of Kingly Court, Alta Restaurant reflects Soho’s bold, creative, and ever-moving spirit.
Composition
The two-level space opens visually toward the pedestrian courtyard, allowing the city to become part of the dining experience. Warm, tactile materials and layered lighting create a sense of intimacy and familiarity, while subtle underground accents add edge and character. The result is a space that balances urban intensity with moments of calm.
Execution
Large stone islands serve both functional and sculptural roles, displaying fish and drinks while anchoring the space visually. A wine bar crafted from authentic glass blocks introduces a contemporary contrast, while a carefully designed lighting scheme shifts throughout the day, shaping different moods and enhancing the warmth of the interior.
