The Bortok Residence is a true architectural achievement, where YODEZEEN’s vision seamlessly integrates history, religion, and cutting-edge design. This project is a dialogue between the past and the present, exemplifying how sacred cultural elements can coexist within the refined language of modern interior design.
Concept
At the heart of the design concept lies a rare sacred book, a cherished family heirloom entrusted to us by the client. Rich with ancient Slavic scripts and intricate ornamentation, it became the cornerstone of our design. Drawing inspiration from its profound religious and cultural significance, we translated these symbols into an architectural language that respects the heritage while meeting contemporary standards of comfort and luxury.
Concept
One of the most striking elements is the integration of inscriptions from Kyiv’s Saint Sophia Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
These ancient texts, carved in stone, were replicated and reimagined through our work. The choice of natural stone and precise engraving techniques creates a visual and tactile experience that transports the historical elements directly into the present. A staircase crafted from luminous onyx is backlit, highlighting the natural beauty of the stone and creating a soft, ethereal glow.
Implementation
Every detail within the Bortok Residence speaks of thoughtfulness, luxury, and meticulous craftsmanship. For the dining area, we sourced vintage chairs from a 1stDibs auction, then had them reupholstered with leather by our skilled restoration craftsmen. The custom-sized dining table by Henge was created to perfectly fit the space and ensure an ideal seating arrangement. Above the table, a handcrafted ceramic chandelier, made from delicate ceramic petals, illuminates the space, perfectly complementing the modern and antique elements.
