Our client is a well-known Miami surgeon by profession and connoisseur of modern art by vocation. He set Yodezeen architects the task of creating an extraordinary private house to live it up. It should be comfortable to spend time with family, have fun with friends, as well as fruitfully work and enjoy contemporary art.

Challenge

The construction site was compact enough for all the planned rooms and street entertainment. In addition, the house will stand on the water at the intersection of the picturesque canals of Fort Lauderdale city. The sun is quite scorching here, which forced our team to carefully work through the stage of creating shadows in the house and the backyard.

Layout

Yodezeen managed to place a house with five bedrooms, a home office, visible and draft kitchens, a wine room, as well as a spacious pool and outdoor fireplace on a total area of 7,244 square feet.

The house is designed in such a way that the view from all the most important areas is directed toward the water. The master bedroom’s panoramic windows offer a direct view of the canal. Wooden shutters on the facade create the necessary shade in the morning and let in the gentle afternoon sun. To place all the shutters, we studied the movement of the sun over our site during the day.

Concept and Implementation

The customer wanted something extraordinary, so we used both straight shapes and softer rounded ones in the volume of the building. The main materials used in this architecture are concrete and wood combined with a large amount of bronzed glass. Even though the house has three levels, it doesn’t look bulky. Properly selected and installed lighting gives this architecture an elegant and even cozy look.

The experience of our architects allows Yodezeen studio to design even piers. With us, they look elegant and do not lose their ergonomic functions for boarding the boats.

For the owners and their guests’ comfort, we have installed a tropical shower in the backyard to be able to wash off the water after swimming in the pool or after a walk on the canal. As a basis, we used an unprocessed stone, which looks quite impressive. Nearby there is a fireplace area for cozy warm evenings, which we dug into the ground to hide this place from the wind.
