Project Wavecrest is situated on one of the most coveted and visually stunning lots in Puerto Rico, offering uninterrupted 180-degree panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The brief was to create a home that embraces its breathtaking surroundings through expansive glazing and open spaces, allowing residents to feel constantly connected to the sea, sky, and tropical environment.

Wavecrest is situated on one of the most coveted and visually stunning lots in Puerto Rico, offering uninterrupted 180-degree panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The brief was to create a home that embraces its breathtaking surroundings through expansive glazing and open spaces, allowing residents to feel constantly connected to the sea, sky, and tropical environment.

At the same time, the home needed to respond to the realities of Puerto Rico’s climate, including intense sun, humidity, and the threat of hurricanes. This meant that resilience and durability had to be integral to the design from the very beginning, without sacrificing elegance or the sense of openness.

CONCEPT

At the heart of the design are the columns — a classic architectural element reimagined.

They don’t just add vertical rhythm and grandeur but cleverly hide automated hurricane shutters, offering protection without compromising the home’s sleek lines.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was to keep the house open and airy without sacrificing safety. Large panoramic windows bring the outside in, but maintaining comfort in Puerto Rico’s hot and windy climate demands smart solutions — making sure the house breathes while staying secure and energy-efficient.

Layout

The floor plan divides the home into two clear zones — an open guest and social area with spacious shared rooms, and a private wing for rest and solitude. The main entrance acts like a frame, instantly revealing the ocean view and setting the tone for the entire home. The wave-shaped second floor smoothly links different volumes, infusing the architecture with lightness and flow. Terraces and outdoor spaces are positioned to catch sea breezes and provide cozy, secluded spots against the vast ocean backdrop.
