Diamond Apartment

16 July 2018

In one of Kiev’s Luxury Apartments Complex Diamond Hill, the architectural and interior design studio YoDezeen masterfully employed a tasteful palette, design furniture and humerous contemporary artworks to compose a bespoke high-end design.

This apartment brims with expressive individual style, which organically connects modernity and tradition, innovative ideas and classical methods.

It might seem that luxury and functionality are mutually exclusive, but just this combination was desired by this customer. A young family with two children bought apartments of 320 sq. meters in the residential estate Diamond Hill on the edge of lovely Marinsky Park above the Dnipro banks.

“We had an empty space: there were no divisions, just a couple of supporting columns, said one of the designers Iryna Babych. – On one hand, this freedom made our work easier: you can unleash your talent! On the other hand, you haven’t got the right to make a mistake, you cannot justify a ventilation shaft or an overhanging pylon blocking ones way.” Designers got even more freedom here.

“Sometimes, when customers are overly familiar with the process, they coordinate every facet. But that wasn’t the case here: “I like what you’ve designed,” said the owner, “Make it fancy!” So, we were completely in charge of furniture, decoration, textiles, matching shades”.

When we saw the breathtaking views from the windows, we resolved to get the most out of them. Iryna Babych reflected on it: “We did a layout, all the eye-catching views were lining right up. But when we arrived on site, before construction had started, I imaginatively lay on the bed in one of the children’s rooms. And realized that the view wasn’t that great, so we moved the bed to another wall and the matter shaped up. Such significant hang-ups can often only be discovered live, on site”. The customers’ status was effectively underlined with furniture and accessories of highly reputable brands: Minotti, B&B Italia, Poliform, Rimadesio – the budget allowed us to make a discriminating choice.

The same dynamic held in the gorgeous natural materials used. The Architects connected eras of history- arranged, as architect Iryna Babych says, “a rendezvous of periods”. Gypsum modeled panels mesh harmoniously with brass and concrete. “At first, we planned to leave supporting columns in the original bare concrete, but the material looked unappealing. So we resorted to a decorative plaster, to the dismay of the builders: we were aiming for the look of timber.”

Marble tops the palette of expensive surfaces; the four bathrooms are generously finished with marble. “Master builders were inundating us with stone sample photos, we were handling a huge amount of stone sheets. In the owner’s bathroom, marble is even installed on the ceiling!

“We thought that that was impossible: how about the ventilation, or the recessed lighting fittings? But we accomplished what we planned. In the 21st  Century, nothing is impossible!”
